Has anyone been having trouble with Carplay and getting Apple Maps to go into night/dark mode? I've tried numerous things such as setting it to dark mode only in Carplay settings, switching the lights on and off and out of automatic. Using Apple Maps is blinding at night, I have to set the whole interface to dark mode and use Google Maps/Waze in dark mode because the automatic setting doesn't seem to work?

Any advice?

I haven’t driven at night with CarPlay but I will definitely check it out to see if ours are doing the same thing. Wondering if it’s an update to the software. Does everything else go to dark mode?

I had read that article before thinking playing with the lights might get it to work. I guess I have two separate issues

1. With the CarPlay setting to 'Dark Mode' the UI does go into the dark setting. Google Maps, Waze seem to honor this and work however Apple Maps sticks to light mode so it is blinding. I like the 'home' dashboard with the maps and music on one page and you can't sub in another maps app here and the map UI mode so super bright.
2. With the CarPlay setting to 'Automatic' it never seems to switch to dark mode ever. I've tried taking the lights off of automatic and setting them to on manually, turning them fully off and then to on manually. Nothing seems to get the UI to switch to dark mode (so no idea whether Apple Maps would switch).

Just wondering if anyone else has faced this before, I don't know whether it is a CarPlay issue, phone issue (XS, latest iOS) or a car issue. I have the North American CX-30 (US).

I’ve been searching this issue and it seams like we are not the only ones dealing with this matter. It’s happening in a lot of cars I’m finding out. Think it’s on Apples side, not the car manufacturers.

I was able to change CarPlay into night mode by using the dashboard illumination switch to the right of the instrument cluster. Just depress the ‘minus’ button once to turn off maximum illumination for the dashboard and it also switches CarPlay into night mode.

Does your map change to a dark blue color or is it still white?

I was having issues with this as well, even on the Mazda nav display. The solution was as stated, dim the dash slightly. Having the center cluster lights turned full up defeats the auto change between day and night.

I had these troubles the first times I drove the car but then it fixed itself over time
