I like those wheels in the OP photo but are they missing center caps?

If you maintain aspect ratio but go wider does that not affect speedo, etc?

I've been thinking about this as well, and basically want the largest tires that'll fit (even if it means that speedometer is off by a little bit). It sounds like 235/60R18 (29s) is about the maximum?

I believe 235/60 is the largest. The owner of the blue CX in teh first post is here on reddit if you have questions for him: https://www.reddit.com/r/CX30/comments/ozqtls

Looks like 235/60 might be just a hair too big (at least with 40 offset):

...but 235/55 checks out on DiscountTire.com

Please confirm if I'm right: 235/55R18 would equate to 235/60R17 to make it a 28" diameter tire (according to tiresize.com/comparison)? And so if there's barely rubbing with a 235/60R18 and a 235/55R18 is perfect, then if I'm going for 17" wheels, I need to go with 235/60R17?

Yeah that sounds right. There seems to be about a .1 inch difference between 235/55/18 and 235/60/17, so essentially the same size.

Wouldn't the odometer be off too?

I've done a search for wheels in our size that are marketed for the overland/offroad community, but unsurprisingly, very very little support for our sizes. I'm thinking I should just find a set of great condition 17" Mazda OEM wheels, maybe the ones from the CX-5, paint them black, stick the larger wheels on them and call it a day. Black Rhino, Reika, ICON? Forget about it, not happening.

Have you looked at the Falken Wildpeak AT Trail? I am considering those.
Oh yeah, those are the tires I'm getting. Tires are already decided with me. I've checked out the other options KO2s are too aggressive for my tastes. The Wildpeaks seemed to be on most of the Subaru CUVs and RAV4s I saw at Overland Expo, so I think that's a solid choice.
