Good morning and happy Mother’s Day to y’all!!

I hope someone can share their experience with a situation we’re having with our 22 CX30, car is not starting anymore, we tried doing everything the dealership asked us to do with no success:

  • Turn the ignition with the fob attached to the start button
  • Jump start the car
  • Replacing the battery key fob
  • Using the spare fob

However it did start with the remote app, which means there isn’t any mechanical fault.

The car was getting a tint job done on it (doors open, key within range) for about 2 hours.

We ended up towing it to the dealership, they’ll look at it tomorrow.

It would definitely be helpful to know what to expect in case any of you guys had a similar experience and could share it with us, I wasn’t able to find much about it online.

Thanks and have a wonderful day!

If a key FOB is left inside the vehicle for an extended time the system prevents starting the car with the key in order to prevent a theft. The owners manual has a routine in it of FOB button pushes that resets the system.

Thank you! But is it the same case if the key was left outside the car the entire time?

That happened to me... Same thing, would not start after getting tint job on front windows and windshield. Would not recognize the fob. Would only start from the app, but could not drive it. A tow to the dealer was attempted, but they couldn't release the electric parking brake to get it out of the parking spot. Very frustrating. It eventually started that evening and was able to drive it home. Wasn't sure if something got wet from the tint job or not, but have not had that issue since... And that was 2 years ago. Hopefully yours will start without issue!

Did you get the windshield tinted by chance? I have seen in multiple places for the 3’s and CX-5’s that getting the windshield tinted causes this no-start issue, and sometimes fixes itself after drying out.

I've been on Amtrak Auto Train twice with my CX-30, and to get your car loaded on the train you leave the window open and the fob on the center console....on both occasions the car started right up 18 hours later and the attendants drove it off the train and I got in a rode away....I do think sometimes electrical and radio noises in the local area can keep the fob from being detected....

I had an interesting occurrence here recently. I was leaving a hotel and opened up the hatch to throw my bag in...said bag had all my stuff including dirty clothes...and unbeknownst to me at the moment my key fob. SInce it was technically near...the hatch opened. Placed bag inside and closed hatch...heard car beeping at me....and not sure what it meant but checked my pocket...no fob. Then realized it remained in the pocket of my dirty pants. Car now locked up with fob inside! Car is smart! Won't let you open it up that way. But I do have the My Mazda app...used that to unlock car. I retrieved fob, but it was not recognized until I touched it to the start button. Moral to the story. You can leave the fob in the car...but the car has to stay unlocked or it will disable itself. (Though easily reenabled once you have it in your paws.)
