I tried using a Garmin dash cam in my car. Suction cup to the windshield and power from the outlet in the center console. To my surprise I discovered that the power outlet is "hot" at all times, even with the ignition off, and thus the camera will be drawing current 24/7. My concern is that since I don't use my cx30 that frequently what effect will this constant power drain have on the car battery (and the camera)? At present the dash cam is sitting idle until I can find a passive solution to this problem. Any ideas on a solution that will not require me to connect and disconnect the power each time I drive my car?

I have a dash cam plugged into the 12v socket of my CX-30 and it powers down when the ignition goes off instantly. Think the USB ports stay on a little longer. I ran the wire out of the centre console down under the passenger seat and under the sill trim all the way up the pillar to the cam. The only piece of wire visible is the first 4 inches or so coming from the side of the console lid down between the passenger seat. It’s not visible at all to me from the driver seat so I don’t care ?

I read the forums before I collected my car that the 12v socket on it was powered all the time but I think this appears to be people talking from experience with the 3. It looks like that’s not the case on the 30. Even says in the manual that the accessory socket requires ignition to be in for power.

For me the 12V socket solution worked too, the cable supplied with Viofo A119 V3 was just enough, routed from the dashcam thru the A pillar sill trim, under the front edge of passenger carpet, and under the plastic edge of the central console up to the socket. I use a 3-way Tronsmart charger. No problems so far, no power to the socket when ignition off...;)

I just installed a Viofo A129 front and rear dash cam. The 12V socket in my Thailand CX-30 does power off when the engine shuts off so I used that as my power. Like Brightium, the cable supplied by Viofo was just barely long enough to do a clean and hidden run. Two inches less and I would have been screwed. I don't know how people install this in larger cars/SUVs.

I just re-checked my USA CX-30 and the accessory socket indeed stays hot when the vehicle is powered off, even looked in the manual which confirms " accessory socket can be used regardless of whether the ignition is on or off". So looks like this is a difference between countries. Cheers
