Today I finished installing an underseat powered subwoofer (more on that in a separate post). After testing the sound for a while, I switched off the ignition and a blinking red light on the dashboard caught my eye. I looked it up in the owners manual and found the following:

This is the warning light and speed of flashing that I saw so it would seem this is normal. But I just don't recall seeing it before. However, I don't drive the car often as I bought it primarily for my girlfriend's long work commute, and when I asked her about it, she doesn't seem to remember any flashing light either. Maybe I am overly paranoid, but my subwoofer install did touch on the car's electrical system, so I wanted to check with you guys--do you have this same light flashing on your dash when you shut off the ignition?

I don't recall ever seeing that.

I have not really look at my dash after switching off the ignition but will check it out today. My Honda HR-V had it.

Blinks, yes.

Yes, you can only see it at night when it is really dark. It’ll take about 15 seconds to start flashing on the cluster after locking.

We just bought ours 3 days ago. That icon is blinking when we shut it off, but it shouldn't be armed since the car isn't even locked, should it?

Just checked as I was not sure and it does blink red.

wouldn't you want the vehicle protected at all times whether you lock or not?

Lames terms lol... It will blink as soon as the vehicle is switched off because its part of the Vehicle Immobilizer system so the vehicle can't be started without using the correct programmed KEY Fob... NO HOT WIRING HERE LOL... ALSO one of your keys fobs.. probably the spare.. has a metal tag on it.. With a number code.. is to program a new key without the dealer having to go by the vin number and look up the info on Mazda internal dealership portal. The light will stay on when starting it if say the incorrect key is used or not programmed for the vehicle.

The manual says:

The security indicator light in the instrument cluster flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.

So it will keep flashing until the car started.
