I am liking the electric tailgate but have cautionary tail to tell. I recently went outside to discover that the car was sitting on the drive with the tailgate open, not sure how long it had been like this. Have now changed my habits when home not to keep car key in trouser pocket because if it is and the tailgate open button is accidentally pressed even with the second delay it will open and not close automatically.

Accidentally opening the tailgate and not being aware of it - - that is a situation that I have experienced several times. I think the link or tab on the key, responsible for opening the tailgate, is much too sensitive or poorly positioned. As with others in the forum I was not alerted by my iPhone MyMazda app -- but it does frequently, and erroneously, tell me that my driver;'s door is open!

We haven't had any unwanted rear hatch openings, I can see it be a serious concern for those that do.

The information on the Mazda app is continually inaccurate for me. I quit paying any attention to it.

Our tailgate has opened several times overnight in the past few weeks, despite both keys being left untouched on a worktop. The last time, the car batteries were so flat we had to jump start it, then no MHEV charge meant very little acceleration (30mph max speed). Our Mazda dealership (in the UK) said there's a recall on one of the tailgate arms, and the body control module software. I'm hopeful this will fix it, but not sure we'll ever be confident leaving anything in the unattended car again.

I'm then quite happy to have a lower trim, which has a manual hatch ! I can't imagine the consequence if I the hatch opens incidentally in my - very - low ceiling garage.
But a thing that I don't get is that it seems that the hatch opens as you are relatively far from the car ? Mazda should do like some Italian cars, to release the hatch, you need a double click on the fob command.
