Hi all! I have a new 2021turbo premium plus which I absolutely love,but I am only getting 13.5 mpg. Almost done with my first full tank of gas in about 90 percent city driving.
Has anyone else encountered fuel economy so low? Am a bit concerned there might be something wrong with the car.

Welcome to the forum. I've got the 2.5S, no turbo. I'll be getting my first fill the next time I go out. According to the optimismeter on the dash I am at 26.1 in 100% city driving, mostly under 3 miles per hop. According to Edmunds.com the turbo get ~12% lower mpg than mine so that would suggest about 22.5mpg or so, all else being equal. Unless you've got sticking brakes or 17psi tires all around it sounds like you either have a unique gremlin somewhere in there or you've just been really enjoying your new car.

No gremlin(I hope),have only driven it a bit over 100 miles. Less than 10 miles most days.

Never worry about fuel economy till you get quite a few thousand miles on it. Short city driving can be heavy on fuel economy for any vehicle. Also obviously you are going off the gauge fuel economy if you've only driven a 100 miles.
By looking at your instant fuel economy reading and the rpm soon tells you where and how how efficiency your fuel is being used.

Sounds good! What concerns me is that I have only driven 100 miles and only have 60 mile range yet so 160 miles for a full tank couldnt be right! Hopefully it gets better!

a first tank means absolutely nothing, do you know for a fact it was full? Your experimenting with a lot of the new features of the car, also it takes time for the car to "learn" how you drive and it does adjust to certain extent to it.

I have a 2.5 non turbo, driven on heavy traffic (Traffic in Mexico City is a nightmare) and I got around 17-18mpg; 100% city driving. Is not as bad as yours, but pretty low.

My point is that city traffic is a killer for fuel economy, specially on larger cities with lots of start-stop and traffic lights.

I have the base model cx-30S, 2021, and I have drove 100% highway miles. So far my car has gone from an average of 20mpg to 34mpg in just 2 weeks. It takes a while for your average to become accurate. As the less miles you have the more skewed your data will be.

I'm well over 1500 miles now.

In the city, I'm getting about 20mpg...I have a heavy foot, and drive in sport mode.

On the highway, I'm getting 30+mpg...and again with a heavy foot, but in regular mode.

The few times I'm on both city and highway, I'm mid 20s mpg.

And I'm running on Michelin CrossClimate2s.

My first tank economy sucked, but it improved after that.

I track my actual fuel economy using an app.

Here it is in US units:

I have the 2.5T Skyactive-G and live in a giant city with horrible traffic. This is the best fuel economy of any car I've ever owned, including the 2.0L 2010 Mazda 3 Sport (the CX-30 is nearly twice as powerful).

Air conditioning on tends to eat gas... Note car has to break in for a thousand miles too

I'm now getting 10.4 km per litre after driving more than 1000km. (29.38 mpg imperial)
When the dealership staff were testing the vehicle it dropped to 7.2 km per litre. I noted they had the air-con on for 5 hours, even when sitting in the repair centre.

Have other forum readers had similar experiences.

I do not have the turbo, but I have the all wheel drive and my fuel economy is terrible. The tank cannot be filled past 10 gallons, and my fuel economy has been averaging 21 miles per gallon. That is low even for city like driving. As a result, the range on my car is only approximately 200 miles which does not allow me to take road trips.

If you drive away from city traffic you will find the fuel economy increases dramatically - have you tried it?

It's easy to tell where your fuel economy is bad by checking the instant fuel read out and how your gear changes (look at your tach) change the reading. There are various types of what is classified as "city driving" according to EPA tests methods, so don't base it strictly on that figure.

I very rarely do much "city" driving as I live out in the country and my general tank range is 650-700 km. I've also never put in more than 42.9L on a 51L rated tank.

That does seem low. I documented my first fill here: First fill and MPG
My car was 10 weeks old yesterday and has 602 miles with 1/4 tank left so I'll fill again in a couple of weeks probably. I drive with a very light foot, anticipating lights, traffic etc. and coasting whenever appropriate. Driving style plays some part in it but so do steep climbs etc. as well. I'm sure you've checked that your tires are fully inflated. Good luck working it out.

i live in Portugal in mountain zone, i'm a owner of mazda CX-30 2.0L Mildhybrid 150hp and can do 550miles with 12.16gallons, for me it's good enough.

You just stop more often. My wife and I make several trips a year from Iowa to Colorado, 670ish miles. We fill before leaving and stop a max of two additional times, not great but I drive 82-83 mph. I think we could make it on one additional stop, may be fumes rolling into Denver. AWD here.

I also do not have the turbo, just the 4 wheel drive 2020 model and my gas mileage is worsening every week. 10 gallon tank. At the beginning I couldn't hit 300 miles with a full tank. Then I took an 8,000 mile road trip this fall, mostly highway miles, and I was getting close to 400 miles per tank. I've been back 4 weeks and it has declined each week. Currently it says that I am getting about 160 miles per full tank. Really lousy. I love the car but this is ridiculous.

I check my fuel economy by making a note on the mileage whenever I fill up with a full tank.

That's more accurate than the calculated fuel economy given out by the system, which I use only as a guide.

As others have said, ensure your tyres are at the correct pressure. And it takes a few thousand miles before the fuel economy are anywhere near accurate. The car is still "learning" your method of driving.
