I always wondered why Mazda didn't call the CX-30 the CX-4 because of where it fits in the lineup. But apparently it's because there's already a CX-4 being sold in China. It's a partnership between Mazda and FAW. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_CX-4

Never knew either.
I thought 0 at the end just meant it was a bigger version which works very well.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one hahaha. I agree, CX-30 does work well considering they couldn't use CX-4.

Yeah, the last thing we need is to have the names spiral out of control. For some brands like Mercedes, I get so confused at times comparing models.

Trim numbers that no longer relate to the engine threw me off. Weird move.

It took me a while to get used to. They have so many different variations.

Meh, it only matters to me once and that's when it comes time to buy.
Aside from that, for the next 3-4 years I'm driving it, no other models matter.

Most won't care either, we just want a solid car.

Since it's part of their partnership I would imagine so, but there's no way FAW would've gone for it.

Probably a waste of time for Mazda. Names don't matter so much and worked out well here.
