This is pretty impressive since there haven't been any deliveries yet. But the CX-30 has been nominated for 2020 World Car of the Year. The winner will be announced during next year's New York Auto Show.

I don't remember the CX-3 taking home wins like this when it launched.
Could it mean Mazda will put more focus in the CX-30 in the years ahead over the CX-3?

I don't know if it will take more focus away from the CX-3. But it could mean that there are improvements coming for the CX-3 as well.

The CX-30 has now made it as one of the 3 finalists for 2020 World Car of the Year.

No way, that's some bad luck for Mazda. I've the Telluride is a good SUV but i've never been inside one.

I guess that, like at the Oscar's when two actors from the same movie are nominated, the Mazda vote split between the two cars which let Kia pull ahead.

That's a good way of putting it. I imagine this is what happened when the Mazda execs saw the news.
