Before I made my decision I did a lot, a lot of research. I was surprised at how many negative comments there were about performance. That was until Dave Coleman set them straight. I never took it for a test drive because I wanted to drive my own. Yes it is not a muscle car😉 but satisfies my need for speed and I am very happy and satisfied with the performance. For Pete's sake it is a reliable 2.5 l with 186 hp paired to a proven automatic transmission, what more can you ask for.

Any others share my feelings?

I have the skyactiv x and agree its not a speed machine for acceleration, however i like its performance around town and typical driving conditions and after 1500 miles i am currently getting 47 - 48 mpg UK. not heavy footed but it is much more of a whole package. Manual gearchange is the best i have encountered. No issues with me so far

I feel that the CX-30 is plenty peppy for the powertrain and platform. I have been using Sport Mode a little more often and also manual mode a few times recently as well and I have no complaints. This is my wife's daily driver but I drive every time we go out somewhere together whether we take it or my Miata, and I just continue to be more impressed with it each time I drive it.

not surprising on some of the comments when you see how the gearing is for the 6-speed

1st - 3.552
2nd - 2.022
3rd - 1.347
4th - 1.000
5th - 0.745
6th - 0.599

on my Kia Soul, the 1.000 doesn't kick in till the 5th gear.

This is my 3rd Skyactiv engine. They've all proven to be reliable. The CX-30 does have best in class hp.

What I like most about it is the way it handles. The steering is great and it rides very well IMO. It also has a great AWD system and is very stable in bad weather.

My only issue, and it's minor, is the transmission in this vehicle isn't the smoothest starting out from a dead stop. It gets a bit sloppy in certain gears. At other speeds and in other gears, it's one of the best transmissions. This was also a complaint in Car and Driver and Motor Trend. Other than that, I love it.
