Another odd reason is.........the Turbo engine seems to be the best in the 30 and the 3. I currently have a 50 Turbo loaner, and despite having the same Turbo engine, it's so heavy/slow.
Is the gearing the same? The 50 weighs more, about 300lbs, is taller, longer and wider, the 30 is more aerodynamic as well.

I don't think it's gearing. Mostly weight. I didn't realize the 50 is 402 lbs heavier.

3,505 lbs - CX-30 Turbo curb weight.

3,907 lbs - CX-50 Turbo curb weight.
Wow, 400lbs+. I've seen a new 50 turbo premium plus, the exterior has a form follows function look, but the interior is beautiful, putting many European lux models in this segment on notice.

My ”Preferred” was supposed to come with a sun/moonroof, but had a moonroof delete which Mazda was generous enough to refund a WHOOPING $300.00. I really don’t miss it. This was the highest level of trim I could get without a turbo, otherwise I might have added the paddle shifters and Heads-up display.
I thought the premium trim was the highest level trim without turbo?

You are right the Premium is the highest level of trim before the turbo….my bad. I’m old I forget stuff. I was undecided about the paddle shifters and heads-up display, and having a very difficult time finding a white car without a power rear hatch and black seats, so when I found white with Greige seats in the Preferred, I grabbed it. I had also read the heads-up display was difficult to see with polarized sunglasses, which my buddy got that in his CX5 and says he sees it fine, so…. All in all I’m very happy with the car in it’s trim level. Don’t miss the moonroof that much but still a little curious about the paddle shifters and heads-up display. How do you feel about them? Do you use the shifters everyday or just occasionally? Any difficulty seeing the display?
Old? it's a frame of mind. Forgetful? I find an old man in my bathroom every morning, takes me a split sec to realize it's my own reflection. I will use the paddles when there is the opportunity, dry roads, less traffic, generally not in town. We have a few rural twisty roads around, turn off the traction control, turn on the sport mode, manual mode, higher rpms, using the paddles. Car handles well, dive into the apex, downshift, accelerate out of the turn, heading for the next one. It's not a boxter, or MX5, but, nevertheless, best in it's class. I do like the heads up, wish it displayed the rpm as well.
Mine is dark blue, the fastest color, however, I occasionally see a white lightning, or a red flash.

I’m definitely “forgetful” 30Pilot. I can almost feel that twisty road. I’ve never actually pushed mine, coming out of a CX5 I am amazed at how much better it handles just driving around town.
It's fun, it's almost a frame of mind, For instance, sport mode is unnecessary in manual mode, it just seems right. This road has one entrance and exit, no driveways, and dead ends in a turn around where a bridge was washed out in 2007.
If you push a little, don't turn off traction control until you get used to how well it handles, you can lose it on wet roads or gravel. It all feels good until the Miatas and a couple of Boxters show up.
