I picked my car up from the dealer and I asked the service rep about cross bars. He showed me the sleeker ones on another car which I liked. I told him that in my opinion, they looked better than the ones on mazdausa. I checked and I found out the both have the same model number. Any insight anybody?

Thanks

I never did like the clunky-chunky look of those 2nd pictured crossbars. They look awful.

Design change?
If you look at the second picture and reference the part number it says it supersedes the first pics part number.
I don’t know, just throwing that out there.

The first photo looks like a CX-5, so I think it's just the wrong photo.
So does the second photo, but that doesn’t explain the crossbars looking different.
I still think they might be changed in design according to the revised part number mentioned in the second pic. Although it’s odd the id is the same just eliminated the dashes.😳

The only crossbars I've ever seen for the CX-30 have been the clunky 2nd picture ones.

As stated above, I think the first picture is of crossbars for a CX5.
The picture on the website is probably just a generic "mazda crossbars" image.

I checked with the dealer and he said the cool looking ones were not for the CX-30. So.... I'm asthetically biting the bullet and getting the 2nd pair. I'm kinda goofy wanting only Mazda parts on the Mazda and having them installed so it's all covered in case of any problems. The reason I traded in my 370Z was partially because I could not transport my bike (go to Costco, drive the wife and kid, etc). I ride a lot and was sick of taking the bike part and putting it in the trunk :)

I saw the cool ones on a CX50 at the dealership and just assumed those would be the ones for my CX30, so I too was a little surprised by the bulkier crossbars when I removed them from the packaging after returning from the dealership, but they'll work, and they are easy to install and remove, so I don't have to have them on permanently, creating wind noise, drag, or the creeping paranoia that something is coming loose.

As for the fact the rail bars have no markings or guide pins, that is definitely not horse and rider, nope. I took a sharpie and made tiny little dot marks at my attachment points after measuring (twice). I also practiced installing and removing them a few times (with a timer) like I would disassembling and reassembling a firearm to learn best practices and efficient order of operations.

I will say this: the non-permanent nature of the bars is not a total deal breaker for me. I installed OEM crossbars on both my FXs, removing the bars prior to selling the first one. Those took a LOT longer to install and uninstall. When my wife totaled the second FX, I went to the wrecking yard to remove those bars in the hope they would fit on my daughter's Rogue (Nissan to Nissan) but nope, no dice. While uninstalling them, the bolts and washers had really degraded due to weathering.

Like an idiot, I put after market cheapies on my daughter's Rogue, and those kind of suck - that's why I wanted to strip the old bars off the FX; they are much sturdier.

Lesson: Go with OEM.

I can’t agree with the statement “Go with OEM”.
Many OEM accessory are supplied to vehicle manufacturers by companies that build them exclusively.
Then the dealers mark them up.
Example….Mazda hitch….built by Curt.
Online price…half of what dealership wants.
Crossbars, well let’s just say you get what you pay for.
I would take Thule all day long over OEM.
