Hey guys,

I just purchased a new Preferred CX-30 in blue and am loving it so far. My question is regarding the inside tail lights located on the rear trunk door.

The inside lights don’t light up at all. Maybe this is a feature that is only available on the Premium model? It would seem odd to have completely nonfunctional though. Here is a picture.

I am unsure if you are asking if anything is wrong. Or if you are just pointing it out to us. It is normal, and I am unsure if the premium U.S. spec has lighting on the inner section. Mine is a U.S. spec select. It appears the same as yours.

Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to know if something was wrong with the lights or of it was normal. I observed another CX-30 on the road at night and the inner tail lights were on similar to the advertisement pictures. The premium model I believe only has the inner tail lights on as in this picture.

I was curious after reading your post and just checked. I am in Canada and have a GT spec CX-30 which I believe is the preferred model in the U.S. My tail lights are as shown in the advertisement, that being both inner and outer lights illuminated.

Thanks for replying and checking with your car. I contacted Mazda Here in the US and one of the service representatives said their Select versions don’t light up in the inner tail lights as well.

I sent them a picture and a link to this discussion. In the meantime, perhaps any preferred or premium owners in the US can double check their rear inner lights and check if they turn on?

Canadian GT is similar to the US Premium model.

Im wondering if they just don’t install the bulb in the other models. I doubt they would have multiple designs for the tail lights. I’m going to ask my shop to see what the deal is. Could be an inexpensive solution for those who want this feature.

I know for the current Mazda3, the inner tail lights on the hatchback don’t light up as well unless you have the Signature Lights available on the Premium Version.

I’m hoping for the CX-30 it’s a simple matter of hooking up a bulb or connecting/splicing a wire. But something tells me you need to have the Signature Lights.

I have the standard inner tail light (No signature strip lights up) and looks like the wiring is there, however as are led version, replacing the whole inner tail light is necessary as led strip cannot be added. Today I purchased both inner tail lights with the led signature strip and should be arriving next week. I will update once installed (Very likely to happen on the weekend of aug 14th) and share the experience, wiring and pictures.
