Smart Brake Support (SBS)

Hello everbody,

My SBS doesn't work at 100% collision detection. I did a collision test and the alert appeared on the console, but I still did nothing and let the car continue its course towards the other car, however I had to brake right on top to avoid the collision. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks,

PF.

Hi PF,
I was wondering on mine as well. I have mine set to the earliest activation but have not felt it work. I was half considering something like two people holding a large piece of paper or sheet or something and driving between them. Saw a Subaru demo that was that type of set up with a vinyl banner on an arm to stand in for the other car. I think part of it is that it is only going to activate in emergency mode (skidding to a stop an inch off the car ahead). Not sure any of us have the guts to total our new babies to see if it works.
For the cruise control, I did find the sensors that are used for the brake support work pretty cool. I used it in the city and when the car in front stopped it slowed me quickly at the set distance but then slowly crept up until I was about a car length back then held. I thought it worked pretty cool even though I am not sure I would ever use it that often outside the freeway.
Hi Danielle,

I've tried all three options and no results. I only have the information to brake but that's all. I went to the dealership to update the software but it's still the same.
The update was confirmed by Mazda since there was an incident with this SBS system but with the opposite effect. There was a user who passed a bridge at the same time as the train was passing underneath, the car detects the train and stops abruptly, so my car was called to the Mazda repair garage, but it turns out everything is the same after all. Still not braking. Regarding cruise control it works fine in my case.

I saw a youtube video review (I forget which one) where they stacked empty cardboard boxes in a parking lot and drove at it quickly to test the automatic braking. That way there was no risk to bystanders, and no real damage to the car if it failed.

empty cardboard boxes
I think that the video you're refering is this one
I found it... I was misremembering this video about AWD vs Snow Tires. It wasn't for a mazda cx30 but the boxes could also work to test the brake system without snow

Hi all, I was in the downtown jam and I had the chance to involuntary test the system.!! About 1/2 second from the sign “FRENA!!” the car roughly stopped . I was lucky
Thanks for the feedback Davide. Does your car have the pack Evolve or does it have SCBS-R (Smart City Brake Support Reverse) included?
It is an executive without any other option.
Your car is the same as mine so there must be a software glitch in my case. Mine gives the alert, but if I let it go, it won't stop.
Mine has already been called, and has already updated the software, but it's still the same. The failure that was detected for the call of the cars was that the SBS acts suddenly causing a possible accident with vehicles in the back.

The example was a driver passing over a bridge with the train passing under it and the car suddenly stopped. Mazda identified the anomaly and made an update. When I heard about this update I went to Mazda's authorized agent, however my case is the opposite because the car sounds the alarm but doesn't brake.
Hi there

I realise this thread is old, but wondering if anyone had the opposite issue to the OP?
Today my anticollision brakes kicked in with a massive "BRAKE" message on the heads up display and did a full on emergency stop. Problem is, there wasnt anything in front of me to avoid and if something had been close up behind me then this couldve caused a serious accident. Anyone else had this? Also, if this had caused an accident does anyone know whose responsibility this would be as I literally had no control over the car. It was effectively driving itself!! TIA

Hello Sarah,

We have a recall because of that, and after a software update the problem is solved. In my case the last update resolved the issue.

My wife was driving the other day and that happened to her. The brake warning came on while nothing was in front of her. Fortunately, it was only the warning and the brakes did not kick in.
I have had no suprise brake activation but had the BRAKE warning a few times that was expected. No braking yet after the warning....to scared😟
I am more interested if the pedestrian detection works?

Ask your partner to drive the car at you at speed... You'll soon see if it's as good as they say😂😂😂😇👍

That's interesting, thanks. My car is only about 6wks old! 🤦‍♀️
I’ve had the radar cruise control on while approaching stationary traffic ahead. I waited as late as I dared before hitting the brakes, it certainly didn’t look as though it was going to stop by itself.
