I've now managed to brick 2 eBay NAV cards while trying to update them. Cards worked when first inserted into car. Drove around the block, pulled card..

Installed the MazdaToolsUpdate package, and fired it up. Backed up the card. Attempted to upgrade the maps. Process got to 100% in both windows, but never actually completed and changed screens?.

Card is now unrecognizeable in the CX-30 and shows as corrupt, now, in Windows 10. In fact, Win10 showed that the card had errors on first inserting it into my win10 SD drive.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Dave

Even if it says "Process 100%" until you get the compete window it is still updating the card. So when you pulled it from the computer you corrupt it. (My card took several minutes after 100% to finish)

You can’t just yank out a memory card that you’ve put in your PC. It may be tempting. But if you do pull out the memory card without properly ejecting it, the memory card can be damaged or the information stored on the card destroyed.
1. Open the Computer window on your PC.
You can double-click the Computer icon on the desktop, or open the Start menu and choose Computer.
2. Click to select the memory card's icon.
You can find this icon in the part of the window labeled Devices with Removable Storage.
3. Click the Eject button on the toolbar.
You may notice the memory card’s icon change or turn gray, which is a sign that it’s okay to remove the card.

To fix a corrupt card you will need to reformat it. Here how to format it below

If you made a backup with Mazda Update Toolbox, you can restore the original configuration from the backup file after the format of the card.

Tried this. Formatted the card successfully, and the backup seemed to complete successfully. Still does not work in our car. I'm wondering if this is a problem with Win10 or with my card drive or with the card itself. Or how to even make a determination.

I had updated the navigation card in Windows 10 without any issue. Make sure you got the right version of "Mazda Toolbox". I downloaded the "Mazda Update Toolbox" and it found a new version which is installed as "Mazda Toolbox".

Just checking to see if you bought the correct card, can you let us know which card you got?

BDGF 66 EZ1 is the correct number. Did you buy both cards from the same seller? I wonder if the cards are bad.
Different vendors. One of the cards is definitely bad - my PC doesn't even recognize a card is inserted into the drive. Second one does not have this problem.

thanks,
Dave

insert dc card on your pc Click Windows go to Disk Management there is blue lines thats your disk keep going down if you see a black line thats your sd card if its black its {Unallocated} if you see that your computer will not load any info about it. so now right click the black bars and {click delete volume} on all the bars of the sd Card >>>>>make sure its the bars for the sd card only<<<<<<< after that now you can just reformat the card the regular way. and now just roster it from your back up from Mazda. {this is how you remove corrupted partitions. just formatting will just remove the first partition it has to be remove one by one then format} if this don't work you have hardware a problem.

Definitely a hardware problem. Disk Manager can see the partition but will not let me delete or otherwise modify it, let alone format it. Going back to the vendor for a refund.

thanks,
Dave

I had bad luck also. My first eBay card worked fine in my car but was not recognized by two win10 machines, so couldn't update maps. My second card bricked during update and couldn't restore. Third card was the charm... updated to the December 2019 maps and is working great.

Honestly the second card that bricked was as likely operator error as it was a bad card. Since the Ebay sellers are probably using very cheap sd cards and selling at $40-50 a pop they can handle the returns.

How to Identify a Fake Memory Card. The biggest sign is lack of a unique serial number that identifies the card. If you cannot find any long strings containing numbers or letters with numbers, the memory card is most likely fake.

Sorry but it seems like a lot of frustration and anxiety to save a few bucks, just go see the guy.......at the dealer😉
as you already have it on the GT model as standard you may not realize it, but a Canadian dealers MSRP for the nav card is $569 if you want to put nav in your GS or GX model - that is a massive difference to the aftermarket prices which are below $100.
