Hi!
My 2023 CX-30 at a speed of 70km/h has the “hiccups”. It’s as if the vehicle literally has a case of the hiccups at that speed, especially if it’s on cruise control. Has anybody else had this issue?

It has 930 kilometers. I have it for a little more than 2 weeks, but it only started to do it 3-4 days ago. If someone is prone to getting carsick, they shouldn’t ride in the vehicle.
How long has it been doing this?
When it does this, can you determine is it engine or transmission?
Does the tach fluctuate?
Bad gas?
Does it do this at hard throttle?
Dealer appointment?

It’s been doing this for about a a week, I was still on the “original gas tank” when it happened. It only does it on the 6th gear at low RPM (around 70km/h). I have an appointment on Wednesday to check it out. No check engine, no nothing.

Pretty much all my driving thus far has been in the sub-55 MPH (sub-88 km/h) range around town over the last 13 months & I never noticed anything out of the ordinary on my 2022 CX-30 CE. Based on what I googled about your model-trim, it doesn't appear to be a turbo (so no turbo quirk), so perhaps it is a quirk with the cylinder-deactivation technology that Mazda finally added to all the various CX-30 trims for the 2023 model year? Are you able to turn off cylinder-deactivation & compare?

Well it could be fuel starvation since you say you are on the original gas tank with 930 kms.😳
That’s impressive fuel economy.

Seriously though, the poor thing is probably trying to learn your driving habits and getting confused.
70 kmh in 6th gear and a light throttle might make it hesitate.
It’s broken in now, put some top tier fuel in it, take that tach up close to the redline and drive it like you stole it for awhile and see how it behaves. Hell it’s under warranty.

Maybe I didn’t write my message clearly earlier. It started while I was on its first tank of gas but I’ve refueled since then. But I didn’t try to put premium gasoline in the vehicle. But manufacturer says min 87 octane and I put 89…

I know that transmissions have a “learning period”, but one would think at 1000km it would be out of its “learning period”. Does the transmission still have a “lock” for when the vehicle is on cruise control?

Our 2023 has the same issue when cylinder deactivation kicks in. I've had it into the dealer twice and they can't get it to do it. Still does it, we have around 850miles on the car. We also feel a bit of a vibration in the floor on smooth roads when its doing it. It's frustrating that the experience is ruining what would be a great car.

It’s funny that it would be cylinder deactivation cause at higher speeds like on the highway everything is smooth

Cylinder deactivation can work smoothly, my previous vehicle was a GM and the cylinder deactivation was completely unnoticeable, GM has been doing it a long time. I don't see much point on a 4-cylinder through, seems like complication without much benefit. My CX-30 doesn't have it.

I'm glad I picked up my CX-30 in 2022, before Mazda got around to adding it to all the CX-30 trims for 2023 (like they already had done with the CX-5 & CX-50). I'm just not a fan of adding major points of potential problems & failure to engines in the form of cylinder deactivation, start/stop or even turbos. The 1-2 MPG you save with the first two that I mentioned isn't worth all the added complexity, risks and/or annoyances (IMO) - most especially when they force it down your throat with no way to turn it off 24/7 as an option. I likely wouldn't have purchased a CX-30 under those conditions, if I had waited until 2023 - just like I wouldn't buy any vehicle with a belt/chain design CVT (a hybrid vehicle eCVT design is solid though). The only real compromise (& potential headache) that I made with buying my Mazda was getting a pure/linear direct injection engine design instead of a combo port + direct injection design (which offers various preventative & operating advantages).

Its without a doubt Cylinder Deactivation... when you baby or feather the throttle at those speeds it turns off the unused cylinders. Its a tech that needs to go away just like auto stop/start. horrible
