Maybe I'm missing something, but it is strange that the CX-30 has DRL's around the headlights but the headlights are always on, so you don't really see the DRL's. Any idea why they would do that ? I think it would look better with the headlights off during the day. Because I can't really 'see' the DRL's, why bother ? Below is a pic of the Mazda 3 where it doesn't turn the headlights on.

Perhaps someone could tell me the difference between the DRLs and actual headlights?? To me....they look exactly the same in brightness and everything else.
If you look at the DRL 'rings' in the Mazda3 picture - they surround the headlights but of course the headlights are not 'on' during the day - like in the picture. The CX-30 has exactly the same design - they have the same rings that surround the headlights. The difference is the CX-30 DRL's run with the headlights turned on, so you don't really even see the DRL rings, as the headlights overpower them.

I don't think the 30 has any light rings. The headlamps are surrounded by plastic...no actual light rings.
I can't quite tell if they rings are lit or not - staring into a headlight isn't really conclusive whether the rings are lit or not. The rings definitely are the same rings that the Mazda3 has - and they are lit. You may be right - Mazda may have cheated and not lit the DRL's and just wired the headlights to be 'on' during the day. That would be a zonk. Although the list is short, another zonk is the lack of heated mirrors on US models - even missing on the premium model.

Yep - same as US model. Can't quite tell if the rings are lit, or if the headlights just splash light onto the rings. I'm beginning to think the DRL rings are not lit - so they lit the headlights. I'm going to have to zonk Mazda for that. It had to be a cost cutting decision.

The lack of heated mirrors is baffling to me.....

it probably works like my current Soul which uses the high beam on low power.

Headlights have been like this since the Gen 3.5 Mazda 3... the GT Canadian models and top trim American models have “Signature LED Lighting” which is where the rings come from on the front and back of the 3. The CX 30 is the same, at least here in Canada there are rings around the front and back lights to accent. I can’t speak to the headlights being on at the same time YET, just because I’m still waiting for my car to arrive. My 3rd Gen 3 GT works as I mentioned above, rings as DRL, headlights and rings when low beams are on.

UK models, like Supafreak's car have 2 small high intensity bulbs just inboard of the main headlight plus all the other bulbs to do with the awesome adaptive headlights. and, of course, the light strip along the lower bumper

After having a close up look at mine today, I agree. It appears the light from the headlights comes through the "windows" on the inside of the outer ring.

Hi, did you found any answer? I´m thinking to buy a Mazda 3 or CX-30 but I'm stuck on my decision because of the size of the trunk and the "ring" that you mention because looks so nice, I have asked to the sales representative and they don’t know the reason CX-30 does not lit alone like Mazda 3. Looking at Internet I got some ideas that maybe you can try, 1. To know if the ring lit alone, remove the fuse of the headlights to see what happen, 2. Remove the fuse for DRL and see the result. I´ll really appreciate your comments.

This is the link of the fuses box manual.

Their point isn't whether the CX-30 has the rings - it does. It's that in daytime running light mode (headlights not actually turned on), both the ring and the actual headlight inside it are both activated, unlike the Mazda 3, which only lights up the ring part for DRL function. Looks cooler, and if the whole headlight is going to be on in DRL mode, what's the point in the ring light? With the headlight on it kind of washes out the ring part.

Exactly, you're right , I took a picture, was the sun directly and can be appreciate the ring and the headlamp on CX-30 but I hope shows what we are talking about.
