Slowly approaching 90000 km on my 2021 cx30.

Just doing some preventative maintenance. I do drive a lot.

 

NA Motors are recommended at 75K Miles.

If anyone reading has a turbo, the interval is 40K miles for the turbo motor.

 

So, I saw this thread and figured I'd check out Mazda spark plugs, even though I only turned 2,000 miles on my 2022 CX-30. They show 2 sets of 4 plugs, turbo and non-turbo. Turbo plugs are retail $142.76, but my price on-line, $121.36. Non turbo plugs are actually more expensive at $151.04, or only $128.40 on-line. Yikes. That's over $30.00 per plug. So if you go to your friendly dealer for your 40,000 or 80,000 mile tune up make sure you bring your credit card.

when you don't need to change them for 120,000 km, sounds like a good deal to me.

You mean someone actually pays cash for a service job these days 😲 I can hardly remember the last time I bought something with cash.

 

Mazda normally uses NGK or Denso iridium-tipped spark plugs, you might be able to get the same plugs cheaper directly, but I don't know which one that is for your car.

 

Dealers parts prices are very inflated. $150 for 4 plugs is outrageous.

 

Something is clearly wrong with that estimate.
I would advise also replace the spark plug boots if they are serviceable.

BTW The turbo models take the same Autolite spark plugs as the non-turbo. XP5682 or AI5682

 

Neither RockAuto nor Sparkplugs.com lists plugs for a 2022 CX-30 yet. They do list plugs for a 2021 and I imagine they're similar if not identical. Their listed plugs are ~ $5.00 to $7.00 each. This does open up a can of worms if you drop your car off somewhere for a spark plug change and tune up without specifying exactly what spark plug you want. I don't imagine that your friendly dealer will want to use non Mazda plugs. Won't bother the DIY'er but quite a lot of people rely on shops to take car of their cars.

I would guess that if you don't work on your own car then you're not on this forum. So I would think that those people will be really surprised when they pick up their car after the 40,000 service unless you get a quote when you drop it off. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and everyone just accepts the very high cost of car maintenance these days. 🤷‍♂️

Why would you think that, don't see why that has anything to do with why you would be on a forum? My local Mazda dealer does all my servicing for my car and no complaints so far. I owned three other new vehicles prior to getting the CX-30 and they were all serviced by the appropriate dealership.

 

At 65k miles I'm eyeing them too. Plenty of options online, maybe I'll get 4 iridium plugs for 25$ and in a half hour I'll be good... when there's a nice day in March. It's one of the easiest diy jobs on a 4 cyl.

 

I replaced my plugs with NGK premium iridium at 71k miles today. NGK specifies no anti-sieze. Use a 9/16 spark plug socket. 15-20 nm torque. Translated to about 11-15 foot lbs. I set the wrench at about 13 ft lbs. Gaps were good out of the box. Little nuts that hold the coil pack are 6 or 7 mm. Super easy job. 15 minutes maybe. Loosen all 4 nuts but take out one at a time and replace. Less chance of something falling in

I just ordered from rockauto for my N/A cx30.

DENSO 4712. I checked the denso website and given me 3 different plugs.

 

I'm surprised Mazda recommends a 75K spark plug change using Iridium plugs. My Ford (with the Mazda MZR derived Duratec 4 cylinder engine) recommends 100K. Is the Skyactiv engine harder on plugs than it's predecessor?

PS: I installed Autolite Iridium XP5682 plugs in my sisters 2015 CX-5 (same 2.5 Skyactiv engine as the CX-30) 2 years ago and it's running great. I'm pretty sure the plugs I replaced had well over 100K on them and it was still running well when I replaced them...they looked good too.
