Another odd reason is.........the Turbo engine seems to be the best in the 30 and the 3. I currently have a 50 Turbo loaner, and despite having the same Turbo engine, it's so heavy/slow.
Slow?
Or slower?
I find the 50 more solid than the 30 with a better ride. Power delivery is the same just a bit less zippy.

Slower. Ride quality is the same to me. The 30 is a far smaller and lighter vehicle so it has more of the kick in the pants feel during hard throttle, and less body roll/twitchy during hard turns. 50 is gigantic (to me) so makes sense it's not as fast nor agile as the 30. BUT given the 50 Turbo's competitors (Subaru's, Toyota's, Hondas, which are biblically slow and no agility), it blows them all out of the water, then goes back for seconds.

Is the gearing the same? The 50 weighs more, about 300lbs, is taller, longer and wider, the 30 is more aerodynamic as well.

I don't think it's gearing. Mostly weight. I didn't realize the 50 is 402 lbs heavier.

3,505 lbs - CX-30 Turbo curb weight.

3,907 lbs - CX-50 Turbo curb weight.
Wow, 400lbs+. I've seen a new 50 turbo premium plus, the exterior has a form follows function look, but the interior is beautiful, putting many European lux models in this segment on notice.
